Old and New Testament
Most of Rudolph Bostic’s cardboard paintings depict stories from the Old and New Testaments. Biblical themes are a natural subject for this artist of faith. Rudy is a lifelong member of the Second African Baptist Church on Green Square in Savannah and has known the great stories of the Bible from his earliest years. Rudy has illustrated biblical themes from Genesis to Revelation but his favorite subjects are Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Noah and the Ark, Moses and the Burning Bush, the Nativity of Christ, and the Passion of Christ. Angels appear frequently in his paintings both in the biblical narrative pictures and in portrait studies.
Still Life, Portraits, Landscape
Rudolph Bostic is often described as a “visionary artist.” He rarely paints from life, drawing his subjects, instead, from his own inner world. Rudy might be inspired by a Michelangelo painting in an art book, a television travel show about Italy, or the many sci-fi films and action movies he loves to watch, but all these “borrowed” themes are filtered through his own imagination. His visual style recalls the rich imagery of our dreams, whether it be surfers, riding the crest of a wave, lion tamers in the circus, or the bustling streets of Manhattan.
